A short note about an advert placed in the Independent today.

A supporter of Friends of the Earth has kindly paid for and created an advert that was placed in the Independent today (Thursday 6th). A copy of it can be downloaded here The advert was highlighting the impacts of the palm oil trade on the survival of the orang-utan and its habitat, and focussing on trying to get Morrisons to join the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

It features a great picture taken by Nick at Cockroach Productions as part of Morrisons exclusive range.

Ed Matthew has supported our financial supporter who wanted to place the advert, and it uses information from the oil for ape scandal report.

We have been told that the advert might also be placed in other newspapers in the coming weeks, we will let you know when and if this happens.

We have already been contacted by Morrisons, who wanted to know if there was a specific reason why we felt we had to take the advert and also what we wanted to achieve by it. They appeared to be unaware that they were the last notable UK supermarket who hadn't joined the RSPO after Tesco announced they will join last week.

We have updated to reflect what has happened over the last few weeks.
