Position Description:
The Chimpanzee Conservation Center, a sanctuary located in Guinea-Conakry and accredited by the Pan Africa Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), is opening a position of Director of Conservation Programs. 
 
Context 
 
The CCC is a sanctuary created in 1997 that collects, rehabilitates and releases orphaned chimpanzees that are victims of illegal bushmeat trafficking and the trafficking of babies. The CCC is located in the heart of the Upper Niger National Park (PNHN), which is home to a large population of wild chimpanzees and a still rich fauna. 
The CCC depends on the Guinean Ministry of the Environment and is managed by the NGO Project Primates Guinea. 
 
The CCC is rehabilitating 62 chimpanzees (from about 10 months to 38 years old) and is following 7 chimpanzees released in the heart of the Haut Niger National Park. 
The Center is also actively working with the authorities to protect the National Park in order to protect its population from wild chimpanzees and its still rich fauna. It conducts environmental awareness and community development programs that it wishes to develop today. These conservation activities are an integral part of our protection of the subspecies of Pan troglodyte verus chimpanzees , which has been classified as endangered by IUCN since November 2016. 
It is within this framework that we are now recruiting a director of conservation programs to develop and coordinate all NHPP protection activities (chimpanzee release site), education and community development. 

Description   : director of conservation programs 
 
The Director of Conservation Programs is responsible for the overall supervision of the conservation activities of the Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC). Thus he / she is responsible for coordinating environmental awareness activities, activities of protection of the areas of activity of the CCC in collaboration with the authorities of the National Park of Upper Niger, and community projects by working closely with all the teams concerned and their leaders respectively. He / she also actively works with the CKC management team on conservation activities around the release program. 
He / she will develop logical frameworks to manage and find funding for conservation activities. He / she will manage the financing of the different activities and produce reports. He / she liaises with the authorities at all levels and works closely with the Executive Director (DE) of the CCC. 
 
Roles of the Director of Conservation Programs   : 
 
- Co-ordination of conservation activities (protection of the NHHN around the CCC's activity areas and in support of the Park   ; awareness activities   ; communautary development   ; research program in the NHHN) in close collaboration with his colleagues in charge of each 
- Participation with the CCC Management Team in the supervision of the chimpanzee release program 
- Maintenance and development of relations with local, regional and national authorities, as well as with CCC partners 
- Administrative and financial management of projects under his responsibility 
- Project development and fundraising with the Executive Director and support organizations 
- Team management under his responsibility 
 

Qualifications/Experience:
Experience / skills: 
 
- Higher Diploma in Conservation / Management of Protected Areas 
- At least 5 years experience in team management in a protection / conservation project in West Africa 
- Demonstrated experience in administrative and financial management, including financial and narrative reporting 
- Excellent planning and communication skills 
- To be able to live and work in difficult conditions 
- Ability to build relationships with external partners 
- Ability to formalize information for fundraising and reporting 
- Managerial capacity 
- Team spirit 
- Mastery of basic computer tools (Word, Excel) 
- Mastering the use of GPS, camera traps and GIS system 
- Speak and write fluently French; good command of written and spoken English 
- Ability to write in English 
 
Additional Skills: Knowledge of African culture and how the Guinean institutions work.

Salary/funding:
The remuneration is to be discussed according to the experience / skills of the candidate. The director will receive 8 weeks of vacation per year and a return flight from Guinea to his home country. During his / her stay at the CCC, the principal will have one day of rest per week. 
 
Living expenses in Guinea (transport, housing, food), within the framework of its missions, are taken care of according to a scale established in advance according to the costs of the life. He / she will be based primarily in Faranah where the CCC has an office but will be required to travel according to service needs.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
The director will receive 8 weeks vacation per year and one round trip flight from Guinea to his/her home country. During his / her stay at the CCC, he/she will have one day off per week. 

The living expenses in Guinea (transport, housing, food), within the framework of his/her missions, are taken cared of according to a scale established in advance based on local living costs. He / she will be primarily based in Faranah where the CCC has an house/office but will be required to travel nationally according to the projects needs.

Term of Appointment:
The position is to be filled as soon as possible for 2 years, with a trial period of 3 months.
