The Benefit

Three hundred million people have been touched by the GAFI initiative, using cinema to promote the preservation of endangered animals. Pedal power brings the conservation message right into the heart of great ape habitats, to the remotest communities in Africa and South East Asia. Hope 4 Apes 2013 will also bring the message home with a UK pedal power school tour, twinning schools in the UK with schools in ape range states.

Ape Alliance and the Great Apes Film Initiative brought the skills of alternative energy pioneers Electric Pedals and their Pedal Power Cinema to the Savoy, demonstrating the cinema system using the power of a humble bicycle to project an excerpt of the groundbreaking 3D documentary film "The Last of the Great Apes".

Hope4Apes at the Savoy raised over £44,000 on the night. Funds raised, along with £12,000 in sponsorship will fund a further 6 Pedal Power Cinema units to go to Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda and Indonesia and a further five education outreach projects with the Hope4Apes committee.
